Horizontal directional drilling

SAT company carried out the first HDD project in 2003 with the cooperation of a foreign company (N.S.C.C). In this project, two gas transmission pipelines “24” passed under the Karun river (Gergar and Shatit rivers) in the north of Ahvaz. This company, by taking advantage of the internal expert force and obtaining the technical knowledge required to carry out HDD projects and having a horizontal directional drilling machine HK 250T made by Herrenknecht, Germany and related equipment, has implemented several projects of crossing under the rivers using the HDD method. Including the execution of seventeen “40” pipe crossings with a length of approximately 600 meters, which is the largest domestic project in this field, it has in its portfolio.

SAT company’s HDD device is equipped with auxiliary equipment, including drills, reamers and fly cutters in different sizes, as well as mud preparation and pumping system.

Although the North Ahvaz project was completed with the cooperation of a foreign company, but currently all projects are carried out by the best domestic specialists and experts and this company is proud to have localized the HDD industry in the country without the need for Foreign experts and by saving large amounts of money and in the difficult conditions of embargo, prepare and provide all the necessary hardware and software equipment.
Among the projects of SAT company in the field of horizontal drilling by HDD method, the following can be mentioned:

1. Gas transmission line “24 North of Ahvaz (2 cases – year 2003)

2. Passage of water transmission lines under Karkheh and Karun rivers (17 cases – year 2008)

3. The passage of the 10-inch Gachsaran-Shiraz pipeline under Chamgol and Zohra rivers (2 cases – year 2013)

4. Passing of 6 inch pipeline under Mond river (1 case – first half of August 2016)

5. Passage of 4, 8, 10 and 20 inch pipelines in the Bidbland-Mahshahr project of the Bidbland gas refinery project in the Persian Gulf, part B of the Mahshahr facilities and pipelines project (20 cases – August 2016 until now)

6. Passing of the “48 gas pipeline” on the Iran-Iraq border (1 case of 370 meters length – March 2016)

7. Passing a line of pipeline “6” under the bed of Shif Island estuary by HDD method (a case of 1600 meters length – in progress)

It should be noted that the Horizontal Directional Drilling Machine with the ability to control and guide movement or “Horizontal Directional Drilling Machine” made by Herrenknecht, Germany is one of the most advanced and powerful drilling equipment in the world, the HK250T model of which was purchased by SAT and has been used in the project so far. Different ways of passing the pipe under the rivers of the country have been used by the HDD method. This device has the ability to drill from 4 to 56 inches in diameter, of course, with the increase in the diameter of the pipe, the maximum drilling length that can be done is determined according to the tensile and compressive capacities of the device. Other factors are also involved in determining the limits of HDD projects, the most important of which are the type and type of earth layers and the geographical location of the region.
